Cemetery Road Wetlands Description

Getting There: Directions to the Cemetery Road Wetlands

From downtown Lake Placid (9.2 miles): Head southeast on Main Street.  Turn RIGHT onto S Main St/Sentinel Road just before the Sunoco Gas Station. Drive 0.6 miles. Continue onto NY-73 E/Cascade Road. Drive 13.6 miles toward Keene.  In Keene, make a slight RIGHT onto NY-73 E/NY-9N South. Drive for 1.9 miles to the intersection of Routes 73 and 9N. The scenic overlook and western portion of the wetlands are located at the intersection of Route 73 and Route 9N.  There is a small parking area and scenic overlook on your RIGHT. The eastern portion of the wetlands is located on Cemetery Road; walk or drive up to hill on Route 9N (toward Elizabethtown) to Cemetery Road on your LEFT. You will go over a one-lane bridge.  The eastern part of the marsh is on your LEFT; a veterans' memorial and meadow with a small parking area is on your RIGHT.

From Saranac Lake and points northwest: From the outskirts of Saranac Lake, take the Sara-Placid Road (NY-86E) toward Lake Placid. Drive for 4.9 miles. When you see a big green road sign advising you to bear right for Keene, turn RIGHT onto Old Military Road (Essex County Route 35). Drive 3.6 miles. Merge onto NY-73 E. Drive 12.6 miles. Make a slight RIGHT onto NY-73 E/NY-9N South. Drive for 1.9 miles to the intersection of Routes 73 and 9N. The scenic overlook and western portion of the wetlands are located at the intersection of Route 73 and Route 9N.  There is a small parking area and scenic overlook on your RIGHT. Drive 3.1 miles.  The scenic overlook and western portion of the wetlands are located at the intersection of Route 73 and Route 9N.  There is a small parking area and scenic overlook on your LEFT. The eastern portion of the wetlands is located on Cemetery Road; walk or drive up to hill on Route 9N (toward Elizabethtown) to Cemetery Road on your LEFT. You will go over a one-lane bridge.  The eastern part of the marsh is on your LEFT; a veterans' memorial and meadow with a small parking area is on your RIGHT.
